PLAINFIELD, NJ - The Union County Chapter of the Jamaica Organization of New Jersey will celebrate the 55th anniversary of independence with a flag raising ceremony at Plainfield's City Hall on July 29 at 2:00 pm.
The Middlesex County Chapter of the Jamaica Organization of New Jersey will alo mark the country's 55th anniversary with a flag raising ceremony at Franklin Township's municipal complex on August 18 at 5:00 pm.
"In its 55 years as an independent country, Jamaicans worldwide have made tremendous contributions in every area of our society, whether it be sports, education, music, medicine or religion," Debra Simms, president of the Essex County Chapter of JON-J said. "These remarkable achievements must indeed be recognized and celebrated. As a nation, we have always strived for excellence and the strength and resilience of Jamaicans are rooted in our rich culture and history,” said Debra Simms, president of the Essex County Chapter of Jamaica Organization of NJ."
The events commemorate Jamaica's independence from Great Britain and will be one of many ceremonies throughout the state.
Other towns will hold events in the coming weeks - Trenton's City Hall, 1:00 p.m. on August 4, Paterson's City Hall, 4:00 p.m. on August 4, and East Orange’s City Hall, 5:00 p.m. on August 11.
