PLAINFIELD, NJ - The Plainfield Public School District, in partnership with the Greater Central Jersey Clergy Association (GCJCA), will host the 2018 Community Empowerment Expo/ Health & Job Fair on Saturday in the gymnasium at Plainfield High School.

This event will bring together employers, health providers, public service organizations and social agencies to provide free check-ups, on-site job interviews, sessions on healthy family practices, and financial and legal information.

McDonald’s, Lowe's, Costco, Home Depot, and DSW are just some of the companies that will be represented at the expo. Service agencies will include Homefirst, United Way of Greater Union County, Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey, NJ Citizens Action, and Healthy Plainfield. Representatives from the US Armed Forces will provide recruitment information.

Free Health check-ups and testing will be provided by several participating organizations:

  • The Horizon NJ Health mobile unit will provide blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose testing
  • The Lupus Foundation will provide information on treatment and living with the disease
  • JFK Rehabilitation and several of their departments will offer free health check-ups
  • IRIS House will provide information on HIV/AIDS
  • Healthy Plainfield will provide information and a survey

Minister Mollie Germain, member of (GCJCA) said, “We are looking for this to be a day of information, demonstration and inspiration, to provide our community residents access to valuable resources.”

Dr. Gary Kirkwood, President, of Greater Central Jersey Clergy Association (GCJCA) said, "Help us, help you and together help others, by attending the community empowerment expo, you will never be the same."

"The 2018 Community Empowerment Expo will bring together our school district, local businesses, prospective employers and health providers to positively impact our families and students as they look to the future,” said Ronald Bolandi, Interim Superintendent of Plainfield Public Schools.

“Our students are looking to transition to post-secondary education, vocational training, and employment opportunities. We are extremely pleased to be a part of this endeavor and we are confident the Community Empowerment Expo/Health & Job Fair will provide the access our students and families expect.”

The expo/fair will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Plainfield High School, 950 Park Ave.
