The Crescent Choral Society will present The Viennese Connection: Hummel, Haydn’s Heir with orchestra, soloists, and chorus on Saturday, April 12 at 8 pm. in the historic Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church in Plainfield, NJ.

Johann Nepomuk Hummel’s Mass in C, OctetPartita in E flat, and Te Deum will be performed by a classical-sized orchestra and a 40-voice choir and soloists directed by F. Allen Artz III, music director at Crescent Avenue Church.

While Hummel is not as well-known as his teacher, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and his mentor, Franz Joseph Hadyn, his music is exceptionally graceful and lovely. Hummel moved in the same musical circles as Beethoven and it is said that Hummel’s death in 1837 marked the end of the classical period of music and the ushering in of the romantic period. Come and enjoy the wonderful precision and beauty of this performance in the historic and grand Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church in Plainfield.

Tickets are $20 ($15 for seniors and $5 for students) and may be purchased at the door.  Large print programs and handicap facilities will be provided. For inquiries, telephone the church office at 908-756-2468.
