FANWOOD, NJ -- The Fanwood Green Team, along with Mayor Mahr and the Fanwood Borough Council, hosts its Green Fair on Saturday, July 23, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Held on the front lawn of the Fanwood Borough Hall at 75 N Martine Ave., the event aspires to educate the community on ways to incorporate environmentally sustainable lifestyle practices into their everyday lives. The Green Fair will also earn the Borough of Fanwood points toward our Sustainable Jersey Certification.
The fair will feature green vendors & exhibitors, local environmental groups, sustainable food from local farms, live music, a native plant sale, solar cars exhibits, children's activities, and information on composting, rain gardens, bee-keeping, rain barrels, gardening, and watershed protection.
Additionally, the Plainfield Municipal Utilities Authority will be on site on Saturday to answer questions about Fanwood's new recycling program.
One of the featured workshops at the Green Fair will be a rain barrel-building workshop. A rain barrel can save a typical gardener 1,300 gallons of water during the growing season. Participants will make their own rain barrel from re-purposed food grade containers and also learn how to install and maintain the product at home.
The cost of the workshop is $80 and you can reserve your spot online at http://goo.gl/1MoEfW. Workshop participants will be responsible for carrying away barrel. Registration is first come first served.
