Free Pre-Kindergarten Programs Available for Plainfield Families

PLAINFIELD, NJ - The Plainfield Public Schools district is offering pre-kindergarten programs for three- and four-year olds, at no cost, to families who live in Plainfield.

There are currently openings at the following sites, and visits to each of the sites are encouraged:

  • Dawn to Dusk, located at 1504 W. Third Street, 908-561-9706
  • Second Street Youth Center, at 935 South 2nd Street, 908-561-0421
  • HOPES, Inc., at 7-9 Watchung Avenue, 908-754-1830 ext 1701

The Plainfield Public Schools' programs provide high quality educational experiences that include developmentally appropriate, research-based curriculum; well-trained New Jersey certified teachers and teacher assistants; class size of 15 students; nutritious breakfast, lunch and snack; health and wellnes programs; and family support.

"Our Pre-K programs not only help young children excel in language and cognitive learning but also promotes independence, curiosity, decision-making, and problem solving," said Ms. Evelyn Motley, Director of Early Childhood Programs.  "Studies show that early childhood education not only improves performance throughout a child's school experience but helps determine success in adult life."

The Pre-K programs offered by the district provide early learners with six hours of instruction for 180 days.  Wrap-Around services between 7:30-8:05 am, and 3:00-5:30 pm are available based upon parent eligibility.
