A social media campaign to kick off the global day of giving includes “seven reasons why” the week prior.
On Tuesday, November 27, 2018, United Way of Greater Union County (UWGUC) will participate in #GivingTuesday, featuring its Youth Employment Pathways Program (YEPP) as its focus for the global day of giving that follows Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
YEPP is a program that provides struggling in-school and out-of-school youth with the tools needed to succeed in school and to secure livable wage employment. Eligible participants in the program are between the ages of 14-24, reside in Union County and authorized to work in the United States. The initiative partners with the Union County community providing direct services to youth in the areas of career planning, GED preparation, job readiness and financial workshops. The initiative also partners with local business leaders to provide youth with first-time work experience. “We are excited about our collaborations with so many in the community across government, business, philanthropy, non-profit organizations and citizens to achieve significant and lasting change for struggling youth in the community,” said Juanita Vargas, VP, Programs and Operations at UWGUC.
United Way of Greater Union County, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, focuses on providing critical resources to children and families in need in Union County. The organization raises funds to support programs in the areas of education, income stability, health and family strengthening. “We are committed to tackling the issues most impacting our community and one of those issues are helping struggling youth get back on track to achieve their highest potential,” said James Horne, President, and CEO at UWGUC.
#GivingTuesday marks UWGUC’s third year of participating. In the week prior to the global day of giving, UWGUC will kick off its “Seven Reasons Why” social media campaign scheduled to begin November 21st. “Each day, leading up to #GivingTuesday, we will release one reason why people should invest in the YEPP Program,” said, Melanie McLaurin, Director of Marketing & Community Engagement, “with a hope to inspire and ignite support from all genres and appeal to their generosity of heart.” The “Seven Reasons Why” campaign will be available for viewing on the organization’s Facebook, Linkedin and Instagram pages.
