PLAINFIELD, NJ —  A heat wave rolling into the area is expected to last through Sunday, with the National Weather Service calling for a heat advisory for Union County from 2 p.m. Friday until 8 p.m. Saturday, according to the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders.

Plainfield residents are advised to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity and check on any neighbors in need. It is also critical that children or pets are not left unattended in vehicles for any period of time.

The freeholders advised residents to shut drapes, shades and curtains to help keep indoor spaces cooler during the day.

If there is no cooling available at home, the freeholders recommended finding relief at a library, senior center, community center, museum, mall or any other cooled public space where seating is available.

Cooling centers in Plainfield are:

  • Senior Center located at 400 East Front Street from 8 am to 8 pm
  • Plainfield Rescue Squad at West 7th Street and Spooner Ave

Additional cooling centers in Union County are also available and open to residents planning to visit these locations and are encouraged to call ahead to confirm hours of operation:
