SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – Holy Savior Academy of South Plainfield will join with schools throughout the country on Sunday, Jan. 28 in celebration of Catholic Schools Weeks 2018. The focus of the week long event, celebrated annually during the last year of January, is to shines a light on Catholic education. This year’s message is ‘Catholic Schools: Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed!’
“This theme encompasses the core products and values that can be found at Holy Savior Academy. Not only are we teaching students to become future servant leaders, faith-filled disciples, and enriched citizens in our communities, educators are growing with them,” said Carol Woodburn, principal of the pre K-3 through eighth grade Middlebrook Deanery Catholic School.
“At Holy Savior Academy, we are all learners, servants, and leaders. These shared qualities are what make Holy Savior Academy work! They are what makes our school and its members succeed,” continued Woodburn, noting that this year’s theme also focuses on key elements of Catholic education: faith development, academic excellence, and dedication to service. “These elements set us apart and the primary reason why families make sacrifices to provide their children with a Catholic education,” she said.
Holy Savior will begin its celebration of Catholic Schools Week at the 11:30 a.m. mass on Sunday at Sacred Heart Church and, immediately after and until 2 p.m., there will be an Open House at the school. Light refreshments will be served and student science fair projects will be on display. New registrations will be also be accepted at this time.
“Come and meet our faculty, parents, and students, tour our classrooms, and view the amazing work of our students, especially the Science Fair exhibits,” said Woodburn.
Throughout the week, various activities tying into the ‘Catholic Schools: Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed’ theme will also take place. On Monday, Jan. 29 at 1 p.m. the kindergarten class will be opened to the pre-K children and their parents to get a glimpse of the life of a kindergartner; those interested in coming to visit should contact the school office at (908) 822-5890. On Tuesday, Jan. 30, the school will celebrate it students and the Eighth Grade vs. Faculty Volleyball Game will take place at 1 p.m. in the gym. On Wednesday, Jan. 31, Holy Savior parents are invited to visit and observe the classes from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. then, in the afternoon of Thursday, Feb. 1, there will be a special assembly from Jenkinson’s Aquarium.
Catholic Schools Week 2018 will wrap up at Holy Savior on Friday, Feb. 2. During the school day, the faculty will be treated to a special breakfast and the eighth graders will become the teachers in the classroom, delivering a special 45-minute lesson they prepared. In the evening, there will be a special fundraiser. HSA Cares Family Bingo, to benefit Ronald McDonald House, will be held in the school cafeteria at 6:30 p.m. The price of admission are items that are needed at Ronald McDonald House such as cleaning products, wipes, diapers, and more; a complete list can be found on the school website, www.holysavioracademy.com.
“Families are invited to come and have a fun night playing bingo while supporting a good cause,” said Woodburn.
Holy Savior Academy is located at 149 South Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield. The school’s pre-K through eighth grade school day runs from 7:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Monday through Friday; pre-K 3 and 4 is also offered three days per week. Additionally, free, supervised early care beginning at 7:10 a.m. and a tuition-based after care program for all grades that runs until 6 p.m. are also available.
