St. Bartholomew Academy kicked off “Months of Kindness” as they returned from Christmas Break. The students will spend the months of January and February focused on the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and learn what kindness is and how they can be kinder to classmates, friends, teachers, siblings, parents, and the greater community. Ms. Kimberly Harrigan, the Academy Principal stated, “Creating and fostering a culture of kindness in school gives each student a sense of belonging, purpose, and deepens each child’s relationship with the community. The times our children are living through are stressful and uncertain. Children pick up on this and providing them a way to channel the natural concern they have for each other also provides them a way to help process what is going on around them and give them an outlet to give back.”
Students will take part in contests and activities that will promote kindness. Two of the first projects are posters the students are creating that will show the various ways they can show kindness and clouds with the dreams the students have to bring kindness to the world.
The students kicked the month with Green Day, and wearing green. Ms. Kimberly Harrigan, the Academy Principal said, “Green is St. Bart’s color. Whenever we see the color green we will think of the word kindness and it will remind us to be kind to our classmates, teachers, and family.” She further stated, “Our faculty and staff have been very active in ensuring the students enjoy as close to a typical school year as possible, despite Covid-19. Fun, educational activities like Kindness Month bring a sense of community to the school and it so wonderful to see the students' eyes light up when they start talking about being kind to others.”
