BLOOMFIELD, NJ - Mac-Adley Hyppolite Jr. just rode over the Florida border this week and cruised right past the $6000 milepost on his bike trip to raise funds for Children's Hospital. Mac started his journey from Bloomfield to Orlando Florida earlier this month leaving Watsessing Park on May 1.

At the kick-off of the bike tour, Mac went out of his way to thank "every one of you," and "for all coming out." About two dozen supporters came out on an misty Monday morning to send Mac on his way. Supporters included members of the Bloomfield Fire Department, Recreation Department, and Bloomfield Police Department. The Police Department and bike riding members of the Community Policing Unit would later ride with Mac down Bloomfield Avenue to the township's border.

In an exclusive interview with TAPinto Bloomfield, Mac's mother told us many of his secrets for his biking success. "He loves to ride," she told us, "three wheelers, BMX, popping wheels." Mom was not at all surprised by the idea of riding to Florida. "Mac love to ride to places like New York, Coney Island, Brooklyn, and Philadelphia for Cheesesteak."

One of Mac's friends was in Children's Hospital when he was about 16. Mac, according to his mother, always wanted to help kids and wants to bring recognition to the hospitals in the Children's Miracle Network.

Mac is know by his friends, and by appearance, as a regular guy. Forget those slick spandex bike outfits, Mac wears regular clothes. His mother also shared that he doesn't have a special diet - he loves pizza and tacos, and road trips to Philly for cheese steak are a part of local lore. He has also been known to go through a gallon of milk in a day, often accompanied by Rice Krispies or Frosted Flakes. Mac's passion for coffee is also well known.

Mac's mom told us "he always tries to help, he has a good heart"

Mac has regularly credited his friends and local residents for making this fundraising ride possible. He consistently credited the local community for their efforts. Funds for the hospital were raised by way of a GoFundMe page Biking from New Jersey to Florida where donations were made. Most donations were $25 or $30 and the page is still accepting donations.

The original goal was to raise $3000, that goal was passed some time ago. In mid-April, he was able to present a check for $2500 to Children's Hospital in New Brunswick. As of today, Mac has raised more than $6050.

Anyone interested in making a contribution to the project can still donate at the Biking from New Jersey to Florida GoFundMe page.

You Meet the Most Amazing People on the Trail

The weather cooperated this weekend, so I went for more than one hike. After all, there are only just over fifty days before my walk to Maine commences, so why not.

This Saturday, some friends dragged me away from housecleaning (thank you!) for a quick jaunt through Watchung Reservation.  While we were there, we ran into two individuals from Westfield; the cosplayers introduced themselves ...

Dear Editor:

Over the past week social media and the news have been filled with stories and articles encouraging people to seek help if they’re in emotional distress. Empleando Nuestra Juventud

Querido Plainfield,

Todos esperan el verano; los días son más calientes y largos, y la madre tierra se pone su mejor vestido mientras las frutas se maduran en el sol y las flores ondean un alegre "hola". The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn (William Morrow, 2018)

A friend, whose opinion on literature I respect greatly, reported to me recently that she had just finished reading A.J. Finn's debut novel, The Woman in the Window. Of it she said, “I wish I hadn't finished it,” which I interpreted to mean, “It was so good I'm sorry that I finished it.” ...

When the Men Go Off to War by Victoria Kelly

When the Men Go Off to War by Victoria Kelly (Naval Institute Press, 2015)

Victoria Kelly's first published volume of poetry, When the Men Go Off to War, is a wonder in that poems can be written so beautifully about the subject of war. Each poem is a jewel, polished and colorful, glittering with elegant imagery, and rich in emotional wallop. The book, divided into three sections, ...

The Queen of the Big Time by Adriana Trigiani, a New York Times best selling author, was recommended to me by a young woman who actually came from the town of Roseto, Pennsylvania, the place where the novel is set. “The author did such a wonderful job of describing how the town actually is,” said the young lady.
