PLAINFIELD, NJ - A city man was shot to death on West Fourth Street Wednesday evening, but investigators believe the victim may not have been the intended target of the gunfire.
Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park announced Thursday investigation of a homicide that claimed the life of Willie Lee Major, 37, of Plainfield.
Plainfield Police Division patrol units responding to a report of gunshots being fired rushed to the 400 block of West Fourth Street shortly after 6:45 p.m. Wednesday and found Major, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The release from the prosecutor states that "It appears at this time that Major was not the intended target of the shooting."
This matter remains under active joint investigation by the Union County Homicide Task Force, the Plainfield Police Division, the Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit, and the Union County Police Department Ballistics Unit.
