PLAINFIELD, NJ - The annual "Music in the Park" concert, previously held at Plainwood Square on South Avenue, will take place at Milt Campbell Field on Wednesday, Aug. 9 at 6:00 pm.
"Music in the Park" is hosted by New Outlook Pioneers. Co-sponsors of the concert include the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders, the City of Plainfield (Cultural & Heritage and Human Relations Commissions), Mayor Adrian O. Mapp, TD+Partners, and Mr. Plainfield, and include contributions from McDonald's, Rackson Restaurants, LLC, and ABC Graphics.
Harold Melvin’s Blue Notes featuring Donnell Gillespie will headline the concert, singing some of their greatest hits, Bad Luck, The Love I Lost, If You Don’t Know Me by Now, Wake Up Everybody, and more!
The concert will kick off with the 2017 Plainfield Idol Competition, followed by top 40’s music by local band MPACK.
Then there will be a classic R&B Battle of the Groups. WINFREE, with Larry “Ice” Winfree and Kevin Owens of Ray, Goodman & Brown (RGB, a.k.a. The Moments), will be joined by former RGB artist Wade Elliott to sing The Moments hits Love on a Two Way Street, Sexy Mama, and Not on the Outside; they will compete in a musical duel with The Delfonics Revue, featuring Greg Hill, who will fight back with hits La-La Means I Love You, Break Your Promise, and Didn’t I Blow Your Mind.
“This is the 17th year that this FREE event has been open to the public – all thanks to our sponsors, supporters and audiences. These events have tremendous costs associated with them, and the sponsors provide all of it,” says producer Pat Fields.
Audience participants are reminded to arrive early, bring lawn chairs and support vendors who will be on site. Milt Campbell Field is located at 1322-64 East Third Street in Plainfield.
In case of rain, the venue will move to the Shiloh Baptist Church Community Life and Cultural Arts Center, located at 515-521 West Fourth Street in Plainfield – Rev. Hodari Hamilton, Pastor. Audience will be limited to building capacity.
