Musical Club's May 25 Recital and Luncheon at Shackamaxon CC is open to the public

The annual scholarship recital and luncheon of the Musical Club of Westfield will be held in the Shackamaxon Country Club at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 25.  Anyone with an interest in hearing young musicians and enjoying a delightful lunch is welcome; the luncheon cost is $35, taxes and gratuities included.  Shackamaxon Country Club, where the Musical Club held its first luncheon in 1935, is newly renovated and is celebrating its centennial in 2016.  Please email musicalclubofwestfield@gmail.com or call 908-654-1036 by May 22 to make a reservation.
 
At 11:00 we shall hear a delightful program featuring our scholarship recipients.  Madeleine Rosenthal, soprano, graduating from Westfield High School, and John Ray, flute, from Watchung Hills High School, are the new scholarship winners. Rebecca Dias, soprano, is graduating from Westminster Choir College of Rider University, and Owen Seaver, piano, is a continuing scholarship student at Rowan University.  Madeleine, accompanied by Mary Beth McFall, will sing Caccini's "Amarilli, Mia Bella", Elton John's "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" and her own composition "Save Your Breath".  John, accompanied by Barbara Lee, will perform Sancan's Sonatine and the second movement of Mozart's Flute Concerto No. 1, in G major.  Rebecca will sing Joaquin Rodrigo's Cuatro Madrigales Amatorios and Bizet'sVielle Chanson. Owen will play Schumann's Novellette, Op. 21, No. 1, in F, and Medtner's Fairy Tale, Op. 26, No. 1, in E flat major.
 
At noon, we shall sit down to a delicious menu, featuring baby iceberg wedge (Jersey tomato, grilled sweet onion, crumbled blue cheese, crisp bacon, buttermilk ranch dressing), garlic and herb crusted chicken, seasonal vegetables & potatoes, cookies & brownies with coffee, tea and soft drinks.     [Those with special dietary needs, or needing any other information, please call 908-654-1036.]  Reservations must be made by May 22. 
 
Please be prompt with your responses, since the country club requires a final count and payment beforehand. Do join us and bring a friend or two to this festive occasion!
