NEWARK, NJ – Teachers throughout the state have a new reason to encourage their students to read more as the New Jersey Devils have launched their third annual “Stick With It” initiative, a four-week program created to inspire elementary school-aged students (Grades K-4) to read every day. For enrolling in the program, elementary school teachers will score a pair of Devils tickets to an upcoming game.

All participants will receive a packet that includes a pencil and bookmark for each student. Classrooms with the highest total readership from each respective grade-level will win a pizza party with the N.J. Devil, the team’s mascot. In addition, students will have the opportunity to win prizes based on the total number of minutes read with the classroom’s top reader at the end of the program earning a Devils t-shirt.

The initiative will extend throughout the remainder of the regular season, concluding on Friday, April 15 with an enrollment deadline four weeks’ prior (Friday, March 18). Registration can be completed online at www.newjerseydevils.com/stickwithit. At the end of the program, teachers are required to submit the minutes through the platform.

Last year, more than 500 teachers from schools throughout New Jersey participated in the program.

The Devils’ “Stick With It” reading incentive system is one of two core educational programs among the team’s Achievement in Academics initiatives, which supports thousands of New Jersey students through hockey each year. Other programs include Future Goals™, a three-hour course to prepare students (Grades 4-7) on fundamentals in science, technology and mathematics (STEM) as it relates to hockey.
