PLAINFIELD, NJ -- Wayne Dietterick, organist and choirmaster at All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Scotch Plains, will perform at Crescent Ave. Presbyterian Church in Plainfield on March 13, 3:00 p.m., as a part of the Festival of Organists Crescent Concerts series.
“The Thrill of the Chase” is the title of the concert featuring four prominent organists. Mr. Dietterick’s contribution includes two thrilling pieces by the French composer, Jean Langlais that will be heard to good effect on the Crescent Avenue Presbyterian’s Adams organ. As a marked contrast, Mr. Dietterick will also play Samuel Barber’s moving and haunting “Adagio for Strings” in an organ transcription by William Strickland. The acoustics of the neo-Gothic Presbyterian Church should be ideal for this famous and beloved composition.
Beyond his work as an organist/choirmaster, Mr. Dietterick is also a composer of over 170 organ and choral works that have been performed by choirs internationally. In 2008, his arrangement of the hymn “God, Beyond All Praising” was the closing work for Susquehanna University’s Masterworks Chorus and Orchestra’s performance at Carnegie Hall. Mr. Dietterick also is Composer in Residence, Assistant Conductor and a member of the Caritas Chamber Chorale based in Far Hills, New Jersey.
Joining Mr. Dietterick for “The Thrill of the Chase” concert will include three other renowned organists: Rick Morgan - Director of Music and Organist at St. John on the Mountain in Bernardsville; Andrew Moore - Organist and choirmaster at Christ Church in Short Hills and Kevin Graf - Organ Scholar at Calvary Episcopal Church, Summit.
