PLAINFIELD, NJ - The Plainfield Board of Education discussed the requirements of filling an empty seat at its work and study session on Tuesday.

Members had voted 6-2 in favor of removing colleague Dorien Hurtt from his position on March 20.

According to a release this week, the board plays an important role in local education and sets policies and goals for the district.  People who want to be considered for the open position should send a resume and letter of interest to Yolanda Koon at 1200 Myrtle Ave Plainfield, NJ 07060 or by April 24, 2018.

Requirements for school board members are as follows: 

  • Must be registered voters who have lived in the district for at least a year
  • Must be able to read and write
  • Cannot hold a contract with or claim against the school district

Board of Ed member Carmencita Pile said at Tuesday's meeting that if a family member were to be considered, the related board member should not be allowed to vote.
