PLAINFIELD, NJ — Plainfield public school children will have their school lunches prepared and served by a new food service management company starting this fall.
In a majority decision by members of the Plainfield Board of Education on Tuesday, Maschio’s Food Services, Inc. was selected to manage the district’s food service program for the 2018-2019 school year, replacing Aramark which has long held the contract with mixed reviews.
Maschio’s contract is for one year with the option to renew should it meet soon to be announced performance objectives.
“The board needs to institute a food service committee to put an oversight plan in place starting in July,” said Dr. Ronald Bolandi, Interim Superintendent of Schools.
He said the board will also need to document the committee’s performance in managing the food service company.
As part of the contract with Maschio’s, the district will see $700,000 returned to it from the sales of student meals.
Board members accepted the proposal from Maschio’s after reviewing those also received from Aramark, Pomptonian, Sodexo, and Whitsons.
Maschio’s Food Services, Inc. is based in Chester, NJ.
