PLAINFIELD, NJ - Monday, Jan. 15 is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day; here's a look at some of the commemorations of the life of Dr. King in Plainfield.
On Saturday, Jan. 13, Mayor Adrian O. Mapp and First Lady Amelia Mapp will host the 10th Annual MLK Potluck and Food Drive in their home at 535 West 8th Street, starting at 6 p.m.
Food and toiletry items that are collected will be donated to the food pantry at Shiloh Baptist Church.
Then on Monday, Jan. 15, the Frontiers International Plainfield Area Club will be presenting its 42nd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Breakfast at Plainfield High School starting at 8:30 a.m. The breakfast is the longest running tribute to Dr. King of its kind in New Jersey.
Imhotep Gary Byrd, who is the award-winning host, creator, and executive producer of The GBE, the longest running Black radio broadcast in the history of New York City, will be the guest speaker.

Also on Monday, members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Union County-Plainfield Club will be distributing toiletries to the homeless population in town as a part of its #BrownBag community service project.
