PLAINFIELD, NJ - On Tuesday, Jan. 24th, the Plainfield girls varsity basketball team received the "Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Spirit Award" which was presented at the team's home game vs. Westfield by the Plainfield Public Schools District, the Athletic Department and the Board of Education members.
Superintendent of Plainfield Public Schools Anna Belin-Pyles said the award was presented to the team because, "the girls basketball team displayed great self-discipline, respect, consideration and tolerance for others when at a recent game they turned a negative situation into a positive expression of respect, honesty, and love for others. A great display of character and sportsmanship."
Team members received basketballs and other mementos from the school district and its leadership, including Mrs. Emily Morgan, President of the Board of Education; Athletic Director John Quinn; School Board Members Ms. Lynn Anderson, Ms. Carmencita Pile, and Mr. Terrence Bellamy, Sr.; and Mr. John Stewart, Chief of Staff for Mayor Adrian O. Mapp.
