PLAINFIELD, NJ - The League of Women Voters of Plainfield, in partnership with National Voter Registration Day, will host a voter empowerment forum on Tuesday, September 27th at Plainfield High School. The forum, entitled "Give Voice to Your Community," will educate participants on how to evaluate candidates running for office, and will teach them what to expect from their elected officials and city government. The public will also receive information on various city agencies and commissions.
Attendees will be able to register to vote at this event, and demonstrations on how to use voting machines will take place for those who will be voting for the first time.
The League's one-of-a-kind "VOTE 411" backpacks will be given away free to the first fifty people. Election calendars will also be available, and refreshments will be served.
The forum will begin at 6:00 PM in the cafeteria at Plainfield High School, located at 950 Park Avenue in Plainfield, NJ. Please use the Kenyon Avenue entrance.
The Plainfield LWV community sponsors include the City of Plainfield, the Board of Education, the Plainfield Youth Commission,the Plainfield Advisory Commission on Hispanic Affairs, the Human Relations Commission, CJA Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. Social Action Committee, Omicron Chi Chapter Omega Psi Phi, the Unitarian Society of Plainfield (Social Justice Committee), the National Association of University Women, and the Union County Board of Elections.
