NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ -- Anyone who drives along Route 22 in eastern Somerset County knows the frustration of traffic. Apparently, it became too much for Plainfield resident Joshua X. Lopes last Friday during rush hour, and he decided to take matters into his own hands.
According to a police report, Lopes was seen using "police type lights and siren" and a public address system to order other drivers to move out of his way as he approached the light at West End Avenue. Since the state of New Jersey made changes to the intersections near the Vornado shopping center, it's gotten even worse. Traffic at that light can back up all the way past the Costco at various time, especially as people commute home from work.
North Plainfield police officer Justin Pelissier caught up to Lopes on Somerset Street at Craig Place near the Plainfield border. Lopes was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.
