PLAINFIELD, NJ - Today, Thursday, March 23rd, 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., Mayor Adrian O. Mapp and the City of Plainfield will present a free community expungement seminar, “Your Past Is Not Your Future,” at New Covenant Church in Plainfield. This seminar will be led by Pastor Steffie Bartley, President of the Elizabeth Chapter of the National Action Network and a criminal justice reform advocate, and Randy P. Davenport, Esq., an attorney with over 25 years of experience working in the criminal justice system.

The seminar, hosted by Bishop Colley and Reverend Colley, is part of Mayor Mapp’s ongoing effort to reduce recidivism and ensure equal access to opportunity for all of the residents of the City of Plainfield. The seminar will offer information on legal rights, employment training programs, job opportunities, and other needed resources.

“It’s important as we continue our renaissance that we provide resources and options for all of our residents. We have a wealth of knowledge in our community and our city cannot be strong as long as there are those among us who continue to struggle,” said Plainfield Mayor Adrian O. Mapp. “For those who are genuinely seeking a way to move forward, we want to lend our support and find some long-term answers. This seminar is just one of the many ways we are utilizing our community resources as a building block to more unified solutions.”

It is proven that a key factor in the reduction of recidivism rates is the provision of consistent and ongoing support. This seminar is part of a series of larger initiatives aimed at providing pathways to success for disadvantaged residents including entrepreneur training programs, the construction of new affordable housing, legal support, and employment opportunities.
