PLAINFIELD, NJ – Plainfield residents are anxiously preparing for the upcoming holiday weekend. With all the festivities celebrating Independence Day, the City of Plainfield is also gearing up for Summer and the holiday, as well.

Beginning on Thursday night and continuing each Thursday throughout the summer, the Plainfield Division of Recreation will host Outdoor Movie Nights beginning at 8:30 p.m. The movies will be shown at various locations depending on the week, beginning with the Avengers: Age of Ultron on June 30 at Rushmore Field.

The holiday celebration begins on Saturday with the 91st annual July 4th Parade and fireworks at Cedar Brook Park.

Fifty-nine organizations are scheduled to participate in the extravaganza that will include a parade, concert and fireworks on Saturday.

Titled “Progress through Innovation,” the first parade of the weekend will celebrate the parade’s grand marshall, Dr. James West, Sr.

The parade is scheduled to step-off at 10:15 a.m., while the concert and fireworks, featuring The Delfonics, will start at 5 p.m.

On Monday, Union County will officially commemorate the holiday weekend with the 92nd Annual Central Jersey July 4 Celebration, also at Cedar Brook Park. The Veteran’s Parade will open the festivities on East Front St. at 10 a.m. The day will conclude with fireworks in the park later that night.
