PLAINFIELD, NJ - A Plainfield man was arrested on Thursday by the Plainfield Police Division.
Darnell Davis, 46, was charged with two counts of theft. According to a statement by Plainfield Police, he had been arrested approximately ten times in Plainfield and surrounding towns since September 2017.
All of these arrests involve stealing packages from the porches of residences. These packages had been left outside by various delivery companies.
Per the statement, Davis had been captured on numerous surveillance cameras and witnesses have observed him wearing a UPS jacket, a Comcast jacket, and other company attire, as he casually approaches homes and steals packages.
According to Plainfield's Director of Public Safety Carl Riley, "He has been released due to the new bail reform procedures under the NJ judicial system which is beyond our control."
Police urge residents to keep an eye out for Davis in your neighborhood and instruct delivery men to ring
the bell and/or leave the package with a neighbor.
