PLAINFIELD, NJ - The Saturday Academy, an academic enrichment program sponsored by Plainfield Public Schools, will offer free classes from September 23 to December 9, 2017 & February 3 to May 19, 2018.  Registration is now open to Plainfield students, their parents and the community.

Classes will begin on September 23, 2017 at Plainfield High School, located at 950 Park Avenue, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Registration applications are available in English and Spanish at the district schools, and online at

Students may register for the following classes: Art, Computer Skills/Typing, Chess, Family and Health, Nutrition Topics, Math Concepts, Martial Arts Concepts and Discipline, Conversational Spanish, Zumba®, and English as a Second Language.

The goal of the Saturday Academy is to build positive relationships with students, parents, and the Plainfield community. Research shows that when the students and the community are actively involved in their schools, the students perform at higher academic levels in the classroom and are more likely to succeed in their daily lives.

Computer Skills Classes for adults are on a first-come first served basis. Students will be able to participate in eight (8) sessions from Sept. 30-Nov. 18, 2017 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.

This year for the first time, the Saturday Academy will offer Martial Arts with Mr. Jamil Abu-Bakr, an experienced teacher in the art of self-defense for over 20 years.  All ages are welcome to take the class.

All the classes are free and open to Plainfield residents. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
