PLAINFIELD, NJ - The National Education Association's Read Across America Day was celebrated by students at Plainfield Public Schools, who enjoyed having special guests visit their classrooms to read to them.

Among the celebrated readers were Plainfield Board of Education President Mrs. Emily Morgan,  Acting Superintendent of Schools Dr. Debra Sheard, invited guests James T. Hunter, a college student at Kean U., Haneefah Mitchell, an entrepreneur and self-made businesswoman and many more. 

Students from Pre-K through 12th grade took part in activities and events to mark Read Across America Day on March 2nd, the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss.  The annual nationwide reading celebration began in 1998.

The District also enjoyed a generous grant from the Plainfield Foundation and Operation Outreach books USA, which distributed two books per child at four elementary schools.  The grant was announced on Wednesday.
