PLAINFIELD, NJ - A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for our area and torrential rain has already caused flooding on Route 22 in North Plainfield. Eight cars have been reported stuck in the water between Watchung Avenue and North Drive.

“Turn around...don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles,” the advisory says . “Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.”

Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the  area with up to two inches of rain already fallen. Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly in the areas of heaviest rain, the advisory warned.
