PLAINFIELD, NJ — Trick or treating in Plainfield might be canceled, but it doesn't mean you can't enjoy a Halloween scare or two. Haunted Transportation: Ghostly Sightings via Air, Land & Sea, presented by the NJ Ghost Hunters Society, is just one option. Due to COVID-19, the Plainfield Public Library's Local History Department and the Historical Society of Plainfield/Drake House Museum have partnered to bring virtual programming to the local community. This event with L'Aura Hladik Hoffman is just one example.

Hoffman crams in over 25 years experience as a ghost hunter, researcher and author into each presentation she delivers. Along with her humor and animated delivery, the time flies by and people leave the presentation commenting about the fun they had and how they plan on sleeping with the lights on!

Here's a sneak peek at what you can expect:

  • You thought security was a nightmare at the airport! Wait until you hear about the ghostly results of Eastern Airlines flight 401 and phantom planes from Wales to Ohio to Pennsylvania.
  • Prefer rail travel? Think twice! From Gettysburg, PA to Pattenburg, NJ, there are tragic events that still travel along these forgotten rail lines.
  • Long before Princess Cruises, the "Gray Ghost" floated on the ocean waters. Today the Queen Mary is docked in Long Beach, CA, along with her ghostly passengers.
  • All along the American seaboard lovely lighthouses dot the landscape providing the guiding light to ships in the night and foggy air. However, some lighthouse keepers aren't corporeal, but are still at work keeping the light lit!

This virtual program, beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, is free, but pre-registration is required — register here.

Both the library and the Drake House Museum are finding that having virtual programs enable people who formerly lived in Plainfield to still be engaged in happenings in their hometown.
