Established in 1926, duCret stands alone as an educational anomaly in the field of visual arts. Classes are taught by working professionals who bring their business expertise to the educational platform, with many of them mentoring the students into shows and exhibits during the school year. With studio classes being the daily environment, there is no other program in the tri state area structured quite like duCret. The school offers an alternative way to enter the societal workforce, for those who feel an internal calling to become the world’s next generation of artists. In the course of three years, under the guidance of the school, individuals can develop themselves in a studio atmosphere and acquire the necessary skills to launch themselves into the field of visual arts in an entrepreneurial manner. Having been mentored by working pro’s, students are firmly embedded in a supportive art environment by the time they graduate and are invited to stay on as active alumni, where many visual arts opportunities abound. For more information regarding all classes and programs, view:   http://www.ducret.edu/careerprograms/

Under new management, the school has recently expanded its curriculum to include many adult workshops and a Class-at-a-Time program in: Fashion & Commercial Photography, Fashion Design, Film Making, Video for Internet Platforms, 3D Rendering for Gaming & Animation, Interior Decorating, Printmaking, SFX Costume Design for Film & TV, along with their standard art classes in all visual arts mediums. Such mediums include: acrylic, oil, pastel, watercolor, graphite, charcoal, mixed media, ceramics, stained glass and jewelry design. http://www.ducret.edu/all-classes-ced/

Additionally the school offers a brand new Teen After School Program for those in high school (ages 14 – 18 yrs.). The Portfolio Development Program runs Mon – Thursday from 4pm – 6pm and students can choose classes in: Fashion & Photography, Nature & Photography, Fashion Design, Acrylic & Oil Painting, Drawing and Portfolio Development. The program is broken into two 8 week programs, with the first series beginning the first week of February, 2017 and the second series kicking off in April. Teens can choose either or both series. http://www.ducret.edu/teens-after-school/

Empleando Nuestra Juventud

Querido Plainfield,

The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn

The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn (William Morrow, 2018)

A friend, whose opinion on literature I respect greatly, reported to me recently that she had just finished reading A.J. Finn's debut novel, The Woman in the Window. Of it she said, “I wish I hadn't finished it,” which I interpreted to mean, “It was so good I'm sorry that I finished it.” ...

When the Men Go Off to War by Victoria Kelly

When the Men Go Off to War by Victoria Kelly (Naval Institute Press, 2015)

Victoria Kelly's first published volume of poetry, When the Men Go Off to War, is a wonder in that poems can be written so beautifully about the subject of war. Each poem is a jewel, polished and colorful, glittering with elegant imagery, and rich in emotional wallop. The book, divided into three sections, ...

The Queen of the Big Time by Adriana Trigiani (Ballentine Books, 2005)

The Queen of the Big Time by Adriana Trigiani, a New York Times best selling author, was recommended to me by a young woman who actually came from the town of Roseto, Pennsylvania, the place where the novel is set. “The author did such a wonderful job of describing how the town actually is,” said the young lady.

What is the “final frontier” on the Earth's surface? Many people would say Alaska, the 49th state, which was added to the United States fifty years ago. Once one has traveled to that remote land, it is impossible to forget the magnificence of the terrain and beasts. Floating by ship in Glacier Bay, surrounded by ...

Into the Water by Paula Hawkins

Into the Water by Paula Hawkins (Riverhead Books, 2017)

I wanted to like Into the Water by Paula Hawkins because I had enjoyed her previous novel, The Girl on the Train, which was a suspenseful thriller. However, when I finished reading the first part of the Into the Water, I realized that I had not absorbed anything that was happening in the story. I blamed myself for not paying ...
