Creating One Plainfield, One Future...
I am convinced that we have the most dynamic and energetic set of older citizens to be found anywhere. There is nothing that our Seniors can't and won't do; from sculpting to sewing, pool tournaments, excursions, fashion shows, prom events, exercises for healthy living, they do it all.
Like for every other group my administration tries to provide as many resources as possible to help our seniors support and maintain a healthy, involved and fulfilling lifestyle.
The launch of "Lifelong Plainfield," took place at the Plainfield Seniors-Living Healthy event on Wednesday, May 17, 2017. It is a program designed to help our senior's age gracefully and in place. Over 300 Plainfield seniors were surveyed and engaged in focus groups involving seniors and caregivers, it was concluded that the three top priority areas for older adults in Plainfield are: better access to fresh food, having access to a variety of transportation options, and timely information on community resources and activities.
We partnered with the Grotta Foundation for Senior Care, which seeks to identify services, provide resources, and enact policies to make Plainfield a more age-friendly community. Our goal is to meet the needs of all Plainfield Senior Citizens, to increase awareness and engage all citizens in supporting an age-friendly community.
As passionate as I am about educating and preparing our youth for the future I am equally passionate about ensuring that those who have earned the right to retirement can do so with grace and with dignity in the most fulfilling way possible.
Our senior citizens have made sacrifices, some have lived through what could arguably be called the most turbulent times in our country's history; they have seen historic changes in legislation, and they have helped to bring about those changes. They have witnessed revolutions and evolution in social structure, fashion, technology, and our economy. They have seen life changing first moments and made some first steps on all our behalves. This is not a group to be ignored and locked away, but a force to be reckoned with.
They deserve our love, our respect and our gratitude and my administration and I will continue to develop policies and services designed to help our seniors live safely, enjoy good health, stay active, and involved. We will ensure that they receive everything we can provide to make them comfortable and fulfilled so that they can live out their lives in contentment.
Let's take the time to reach out to our senior citizens, spend some time, have a chat... you will be amazed at what they've seen and done and what you can learn. I know I always am.
