PLAINFIELD, NJ - Washington Community School in Plainfield is holding its Annual Fall Book Fair, and is inviting sponsors to support the school's mission to help students learn, grow, and reach their fullest potential in life by reading.

"By becoming a sponsor, you can help us change the lives of children one book at a time,” said Lisette Wait, Librarian/Media Specialist, and Coordinator of the Book Drive.

The school is requesting the assistance of local businesses and organizations to help make this event successful. Research shows that when the community and its organizations are involved in their local schools, it highlights the importance of schools, and it motivates students to read and learn. It also allows the community to be a part of efforts to benefit the lives of the students in the community.

"Our students are very excited about the upcoming fair,” said Dr. Anthony Jenkins, Principal at Washington Community School. “Unfortunately, many of our students may not be able to afford the book of their choice and as a result we turn to our community for assistance. We invite you to participate in our book fair by giving the gift of literacy.  Whether sponsoring one student, an entire class, or donating books your contribution will be greatly appreciated.”

The goal of the book fair is to provide at least one book to each of the 584 students enrolled.

The book drive will be held at Washington Community School, 427 Darrow Avenue, Monday, December 4, to Friday, December 8, 2017.
