PLAINFIELD, NJ - Plainfield police are currently investigating two shooting that occurred this week, including one just last night. On July 19th At approximately 4:55 pm, Plainfield Police Officers responded to the 600 block of Berckman Street regarding shots fired. Upon arrival they located shell casings in the area but no victim. Shortly thereafter, an area hospital reported that a 27 year old male entered with a non-life threatening shooting injury. Police interviewed the victim, who was uncooperative and they determined that he was in possession of suspected CDS. Officers and Detectives quickly identified a 19 year old suspect in the shooting to be Zion Morrison of Plainfield, NJ. Morrison was arrested without incident and the gun was recovered as well. Morrison is charged with attempted murder and various weapons offenses.
Overnight at approximately midnight, Plainfield Police Officers responded to the area of West 4th Street and Liberty Street on a ShotSpotter alert. Two males, ages 22 and 26, and a 28 year old female, were found with injuries deemed to be non life threatening. The three victims were taken to an area hospital for treatment. The Plainfield Police were assisted by surrounding law enforcement agencies with crowd control and scene containment without incident.
