July 30, 2018, Plainfield, NJ -- Rebecca Perkins has announced her candidacy for a three-year term on the Plainfield Board of Education. Perkins, a four-year resident of Plainfield, said her campaign slogan is “ABC – Accountable, Budget-based, and Caring.”
“I believe that our children deserve an education that will equip them to function in a rapidly changing economy, as well as a well-rounded education that will teach them to be life-long learners,” she said. “I am running as an independent candidate so that I will be accountable only to our children and to the voters in Plainfield.”
Perkins brings experience and first-hand knowledge of school board membership, having served as President and a member of the Warren Township Board of Education. “As a previous Board of Education President, I know the challenge of crafting a budget that creates academic excellence with strong fiscal control. As a Plainfield homeowner, I recognize the importance of quality schools in protecting my financial investment in my home. I will provide fiscal oversight and my decisions will be budget-based.”
Perkins said that her life-long commitment to education, as well as her commitment to community, is what ultimately led her to run for the Board. “As a former high school English teacher, and the mother of a high school history teacher, I know that teachers change lives,” she said. “I chose to live in Plainfield because I believe in the future of Plainfield, and, as one of many residents caring about our city and our children, I believe that I can make a contribution through service on the Plainfield Board of Education.”
Perkins is President and CEO of The Perkins Partnership, a public policy consulting firm that provides advocacy, stakeholder engagement and nonprofit leadership, and a focus on New Jersey’s life sciences sector. She holds a master’s degree in English Literature from Drew University and a Bachelor of Science in Education from Emporia State University.
