PLAINFIELD - Lace up those sneakers, the 8th Annual Plainfield-Queen City Historic 5K Walk/Run for Life event is set for Saturday, Oct. 13, and registration is open.
The USATF-sanctioned event kicks off at 8 a.m. at city hall. The one-mile walk will start at 9 a.m., and the certified 5K walk/run will start at 9:30 a.m. All walkers and runners are officially timed, and awards will be given by age and gender. Enter as a team, or as an individual. The first 250 registered entrants are guaranteed a goody bag that includes a commemorative t-shirt.
Register for the 5K for just $20, and only $10 for the one-mile fun run. After Oct. 8, costs increase to $25 and $15, respectively.
The city of Plainfield is advising residents to expect road closures and delays on the day of the event from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the following streets:
- Watchung Avenue
- West Fourth Street
- West Fifth Street
- Plainfield Avenue
- West Eight Street
- Evergreen Avenue
- Hillside Avenue
The 501(c)3 non-profit organization's mission is to help address concerns in and around the Plainfield community through a premier walk/run event that encourages unity, advocacy for youth, and a focus on health and wellness; it aims to highlight the rich history, safety and beauty of the city.
According to the event website, all profits go to disadvantaged youth and elderly non-profit projects. Previous recipients include 25 deserving children who were awarded scholarships, and local cheerleading and sports teams were supported. All donations and sponsorships are fully tax deductible.
