SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Over 250 local residents braved the cold weather on Saturday, April 1 to participate in the annual St. Bart's 5K, the first of four races scheduled to happen in Scotch Plains this year. Mayor Al Smith, Deputy Mayor Llewellyn Jones, long-time building official Bob LaCosta and SP-F Board of Ed. member Evan Murray were among those who participated in the event. 

Liam Christman, a 16-year-old resident from Fanwood won the race while registering a time of 18 minutes and 19 seconds, which was a 5:54 mile pace. Deputy Mayor Jones rounded out the Top 30 with an official time of 23 minutes and 56 seconds. Click here for the full race results. 

As a reminder, residents who participate in three or more qualifying runs/walks in town this year will be awarded the Mayor's Medal. 

The next race is the YMCA 5K, which is scheduled for Wednesday, May 17 at 7 p.m. with the one-mile family walk/run set for 6:30 p.m.
