Speed dating event for houses of worship coming April 26

UNION, NJ - The Union County Interfaith Coordinating Council will hold a networking event April 26 at which residents from throughout Union County looking for a faith community to join may "speed date" with various faith-based organizations. The event, called Faith in Action, will be held at Suburban Golf Club at 1730 Morris Avenue in Union from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

This is the second annual Faith in Action networking event. While initially designed to allow members of nonprofit Community Access Unlimited (CAU) to meet with representatives from various faith-based organizations to help them determine which they might want to join, the event has been opened to all county residents this year.

Last year 92 CAU members met with 43 representatives of 19 houses of worship. Of those 92, 50 made connections with one of the organizations. Myrta Rosa was one of those.

"It was a great experience," she said. "It gave people with different abilities the opportunity to see what's out there to help them succeed and make a better future."

Rosa has been attending Saturday mass at The Parish Community of St. Helen in Westfield since last year's event.

"I feel very welcomed and comfortable," she said. "I feel like I'm home. I don't feel different at all."

To register for the event, call 908.354.3040, ext. 4324, or email

In Cold Blood by Truman Capote

In Cold Blood by Truman Capote (Random House, 1965)

In Cold Blood is, quite simply, the grand-daddy of true crime writing, dubbed by Capote, himself, as the first non-fiction novel (although Norman Mailer argued the point when he published The Executioner's Song in 1979.) The conditions under which I read In Cold Blood for the first time were pretty weird, which was another ...
