St. Peter’s Prep Sophomore Gives Back to the Plainfield Area YMCA Shelter

Frank Preite, with son Matthew Preite Credits: Bo Vastine

PLAINFIELD, NJ - Matthew Preite, Westfield resident and current sophomore at Saint Peter’s Prep, recently delivered baby supplies to the Plainfield Area YMCA’s emergency shelter. Preite’s impetus came out of a need to satisfy his service hours for his confirmation later this May.

After reaching out to church members and neighbors, the idea of collecting items such as baby wipes and diapers for homeless families was born.

Preite says, “I was able to collect about ten boxes and bags filled with supplies.”

Thanks to family friend Bo Vastine, who is the Finance Manager at the Plainfield YMCA, Preite’s donations were delivered to the shelter, which provides assistance to Union County residents who need a safe environment to stay during their time of need.

Prior to Preite's visit, Holy Trinity middle school students visited the shelter to learn about the services provided to families during times of crisis, and how service projects can directly benefit the residents.
