PLAINFIELD, NJ - The Plainfield Police have charged Khalil Harris of North Brunswick with possession of a stolen car and more. Narcotics Detectives had spotted the stolen vehicle Harris was driving in the vicinity of the Netherwood Train Station.

On Saturday, January 7, 2017, Plainfield Police charged a North Brunswick man with possession of a stolen car and as well as other charges. At approximately 3:00 P.M., Sergeant Christopher Fortunka and Detective Troy Alston of the Narcotics Bureau were patrolling in the 1100 Block of South Avenue. At this time they observed a Green 2003 Acura bearing New Jersey registration G40-GFG travelling east on South Avenue. This vehicle had been recently reported stolen out of North Plainfield.
The Detectives followed the vehicle until it began pulling into the Delta gas station located on South Avenue at Belvidere Avenue. As they activated their emergency lights and sirens, the driver later determined be Khalil Harris, age 20, from North Brunswick, N.J. fled in the vehicle and he ultimately crashed into several parked cars. Harris then led the Detectives on a brief foot pursuit. He was quickly apprehended by Sergeant Fortunka and Detective Alston with assistance from other Narcotics Detectives.
Four other occupants were located within the vehicle which included two children, ages one and two years old. There were no injuries sustained during this incident.
Mr. Harris was arrested and charged with the following:
- Aggravated Assault (4th degree)
- Eluding Police (2nd degree)
- Resisting Arrest (4th degree)
- Criminal Mischief (4th degree, 5 counts)
- Criminal Mischief (3rd degree)
- Endangering the Welfare of a Child (3rd degree, 3 counts)
- Receiving Stolen Property (3rd degree)
