Los Angeles, CA -- Union Catholic's Sydney McLaughlin opened her outdoor season by crushing another national high school record by running 38.90 to place first in the 300-meter hurdles at the Arcadia Invitational on Saturday night in California.

The Kentucky-bound McLaughlin, making her debut in the 300 hurdles, shattered the previous national record of 39.98 set in 1991 by Lashinda Demus, who owns the American record in the 400 hurdles.

McLaughlin, an Olympian in the 400 hurdles in Rio last summer, now owns four national high school records, the 400 hurdles (54.,15), the indoor 300 dash (36.82), and the indoor 400 (51.61).
