There is a terrific Thursday ahead, tomorrow August 2nd, in the Queen City – In case you missed our Week Ahead article, here is a recap and more things happening in our city:

Stop by the Plainfield Public Library if you have young ones to entertain and participate in a  Children’s Craft at 2 pm in the Children’s Library. The Library is located at 800 Park Ave.

The community is invited to attend the 21st Century Summer Learning Camp’s final program/Showcase on Thursday, August 2, 2018 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Washington Community School, 427 Darrow Avenue, Plainfield. The evening will feature a Decades Theme and will include performances by the Dance Theatre and a Cultural Museum experience. There will also be vendors, student projects, food and activities. Attendees are to enter via the rear entrance of the school.

Before you head to the free concert, have a little pre-concert dinner and support DuCret School of the Art at the Outback Steak House on Route 22 in Greenbrook from 4- 9 pm. Fifteen percent of your dinner bill will be donated to DuCret. Did you know that DuCret is the oldest art school in the state of New Jersey and was founded by artist and teacher Marjorie Van Emburgh and was originally located in a carriage house in a residential area of Plainfield?

For your musical entertainment you will not want to miss the free annual Music in the Park:  Free Community Concert (Idol Competition at 5 pm and Concert at 6 pm) at Milt Campbell Field (1322 East Third Street). Bring your lawn chairs! This year’s concert will provide the audience with a range of music diversity featuring some old school classic R & B, reggae, and Latin. 

The Plainfield Idol Competition kicks off the concert at 5PM and provides a platform for non-professional youth singers between the ages of 8 – 18 years old to share their talent in a youth friendly, supportive environment.  All competitors receive a cash award. 

Headlining the list of guest artists is Blue Magic singing hit songs “Spell” and “Sideshow”.  Additionally, performances by Soul Generation, Eban Brown (former lead vocalist w/the Stylistics), Kevin Owens & Larry “Ice” Winfree of Ray, Goodman & Brown, King Banton, Ximena Ibarra and Retta Young & Company will keep the audience captivated all night.  CP Lacey “The Executioner an Apollo Legend” will MC the event.

If you are more interested in finding out about the latest developments being considered in the City of Plainfield, the Planning Board will be holding its regularly scheduled meeting at City Hall at 7 pm. An agenda can be found on the City’s website.

How to Start your Own Business  a collaboration between the City of Plainfield & Rising Tide Capital: at 6:30 pm to 8 pm at the Unitarian Church (724 Park Ave) will offer valuable information for you to build the business of your dreams.
