The Week Ahead in Plainfield: Aug 28-Sept 1


PLAINFIELD, NJ - Here's a look at what's on TAP this week in and around the city to learn more about Plainfield, NJ news and events. 

Typically our weekly round-ups include the weekend, but we are holding off on Saturday and Sunday for now, and will keep you posted on any Labor Day weekend events about which we hear!

  • The Plainfield Board of Education meets at 8:00 pm at Washington Community School, 427 Darrow Avenue.  Download agenda herepdf.
  • The Plainfield Public Library, at 800 Park Avenue, will re-open today at 9:00 a.m. as it has finished building maintenance. 
  • Today the library holds Bleep Lab, a music technology workshop where 11-17 year olds can try out samplers, drum machines and recording apps.  Make your own beats, share samples, and learn about free and inexpensive music technology.  From 4:00 to 6:00 pm in the Computer Lab, 800 Park Avenue.
  • Register on  On Mondays, check out the FREE Chair Fitness class that takes place at the Plainfield Area YMCA, located at 518 Watchung Avenue, from 11:00 a.m to 12:00 p.m. 


  • Free computer classes in Spanish are available at the Plainfield Public Library, 800 Park Avenue, from 9:30 to 11:00 am - Internet


  • Free computer classes in Spanish at the Plainfield Public Library, from 7:00 to 8:30 pm - Internet
  • Register on  On Wednesdays, check out the FREE Adult Zumba Gold class that takes place at the Plainfield Area YMCA, located at 518 Watchung Avenue, from 11:00 a.m to 12:00 p.m. 
  • Senior activities at the Plainfield Public Library take place every Wednesday at 800 Park Avenue.  Here's a look at what to expect this week:
    • 10:00-10:30 am:  Coffee
    • 10:30-11:45 am:  Chair Yoga with Valerie
    • 12:00-1:30 pm:  Jewelry Making with Marie
    • 12:15-1:30 pm:  Social services consultation
    • 1:30-2:00 pm:  Wrap up the day's festivities!


  • Bingo Thursdays at the Plainfield Senior Center, open to Plainfield residents age 55 years and older.  For more information, call 908-753-3506.
  • This is the final week of the 'Thursdays in the City" series at City Hall Plaza.  An encore performance with Flavuh will start at 7:00 pm, and the show goes on rain or shine.  Grab a friend, and bring a chair!
  • Make your own stamp art quickly, using foam rubber and ink at the Plainfield Public Library' Foam Printing workshop.  From 3:00 to 4:30 pm in Room 5.
  • A Grand Opening Ceremony for a new restaurant in town will take place at 200 Grant Avenue from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.  Be sure to check out Grant BBQ Restaurant!


  • Check out Origami for beginners, age 11-17 at the Plainfield Public Library, at 4:30 pm in Room 5.
  • Register on  On Fridays, check out the FREE Adult Cardio and Strength class that takes place at the Plainfield Area YMCA, located at 518 Watchung Avenue, from 11:00 a.m to 12:00 p.m.
