MONDAY

There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony at the new Watchung Reservation Sensory Trail, a 0.3 mile loop with a central gazebo.  The interpretive signage includes two talking kiosks highlighting the natural and human history of the reservation.  At 10 a.m. at 452 New Providence Rd. in Mountainside.

The Plainfield Education Association is once again sponsoring a candidates forum featuring those running for seats on the Board of Education.  Nine members of the community filed for three three-year seats:  Alma Blanco; John C. Campbell - incumbent; David Graves; Emily E. Morgan - incumbent; Melba Mullins; Rebecca Perkins; Timothy A. Priano; Harry M. Watson Jr.; Richard Wyatt - incumbent.  Three residents filed for a one-year unexpired term:  Eric Andrews; Dorien Hurtt; Tera L. The Shade Tree Commission meets at 7:30 p.m. in the second floor conference room at city hall.

Football:  1 p.m. scrimmage vs. Perth Amboy HS at the Perth Amboy Youth Complex.

Plainfield's Division of Parks and Recreation summer concert series continues with a World Music theme.  The tunes start at 7 p.m. on the plaza at city hall, 515 Watchung Ave.

FRIDAY

It's a Back2School Block Party at the Salvation Army.  There will be free school supplies, games, food and prizes.  All are welcome.  From 2 to 5 p.m. at 615 Watchung Ave.

Girls soccer:  Away game at John P. Stevens, at 10 a.m.

Boys soccer:  Scrimmage at Carteret HS, at 10 a.m.

SATURDAY

The Plainfield Health Division's final microchip and rabies clinic of the month will be held in the parking lot at city hall, 515 Watchung Ave., from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  For more information, call 908-753-3092.  Read more.

Dairy Queen is giving away a hundred bikes and helmets to those in need.  Get there early!  Starts at 8 a.m.  At 1367 South Ave.

The Young Survivor's Foundation is holding a back-to-school giveaway, with food, music, and a bounce house, too.  From 1 to 4 p.m. at 209 Berckman Street.

Abundant Grace Worship Ministries is holding a free school supplies giveaway from 10 a.m. to noon, at 210 Church Street.

SUNDAY

It's a Senior Soirée at Hannah Atkins Pool to help close out the swim season.  Join the party from 3 to 7 p.m.  There will a bathing suit contest for Best Cover Up, Best Designed Bathing Suit, and Most Colorful Bathing Suit, and lifeguards will be on duty.  Registration is required.  Call 908-753-3097.  Hannah Atkins is located at 508-52 West 3rd Street.
