UNION COUNTY, NJ - Celebrate National Trails Day by taking a guided nature walk in the Watchung Reservation this Saturday, June 3, rain or shine.  Afterwards, consider volunteering on a trail work project. If you can’t make this scheduled event, visit the Watchung Stable, Trailside Nature & Science Center or hike a trail in any one of Union County’s 35 other parks at your own convenience!   • 8:15-8:30 a.m.     CHECK-IN:  Check-in at the old museum building  and enjoy a continental breakfast including bagels, muffins, juice and coffee for all pre-registered project participants.           
  • 8:30-10:00 a.m.    RESERVATION RAMBLE: Join a Trailside Nature & Science Center naturalist for a guided hike.  Look and listen for birds, check out the Blue Brook, and discover the diversity of plants and animals that live in this scenic 2,143-acre preserve.  For: ages 7 years and up (children must be accompanied by an adult).
  • 10:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m.      TRAIL WORK PROJECT:  Our trails need your help!  We will be working to address trail erosion and to remove invasive vegetation along a hiking trail.  Have fun, give back to the trails that give you enjoyment, and learn trail building and maintenance skills!

Meet:  At the old museum building (building on the left) at the bottom of the hill below Trailside Nature & Science Center’s main parking lot (452 New Providence Road, Mountainside).

Wear: Sturdy boots or sneakers and clothes that can get dirty.
