UNION, NJ - Two Union men have been arrested in connection with the fatal Sunday afternoon shooting in Union.
According to the Union County Prosecutors Office, a 17-year old has been charged with first-degree murder and weapons offenses in the death of Jose Diago, also from Union. Also charged was Willy Rodriguez-Gil, 22. Rodriguez-Gil has been charged with first-degree robbery.
According to the Prosecutors Office, Union police officers responded to a report of shots fired at the 700 block of Trotting Road at about 2:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Police found Diago suffering from a fatal gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Prosecutors Office said a prompt response and thorough investigation by Union police, the Union County Prosecutors Office Homicide Task Force, Mountainside police, and the Union County Sheriff’s Office resulted in the quick arrests. The juvenile was taken into custody and transported to the Union County Juvenile Detention Center. Rodriguez-Gil was taken to the Union County Jail pending first appearance.
