PLAINFIELD, NJ - The multi-sport field at Plainfield's Seidler Field is officially open after a ribbon cutting ceremony that took place on Saturday afternoon on Nov. 4.
Planning Board Chairman Ron Scott Bey said, "some of you, like me, played on this field when we were kids.” He added, "many of you, like me, wanted something like this for many years. I think I started this maybe ten years ago, asking and asking and asking. It finally got done. It got done because of everybody out here.”
Plainfield Mayor Adrian O. Mapp said, "we have been enjoying a great partnership with the county of Union. And what you see here today, within the next eight months or so, you will see a duplicate of this at Cedar Brook Park. By May of next year, there will be a multi-sport artificial turf complex at Cedar Brook Park. And there will also be a mini soccer field as well."
Mapp continued, "and so, we will continue to move our city forward. We will continue to enhance our recreational spaces. You’ve seen what we’ve done downtown with the skate park and our young people can’t get enough of that park.”
He added, "right across the street in a matter of months there will be a five-story mixed use facility that will be right across the street with a restaurant.”
After the ribbon was cut, kids of all ages streamed onto the field.
