The Star-Spangled Banner was performed by the Maxson Middle School Concert Band, and it was followed by Dr. Cooper's presentation, highlighting that the school district budget is $191.7 million.

Some of the accomplishments within the district that were highlighted included a 100% pass rate for PARCC Algebra I Assessment, a 100% graduation rate for PAAAS, a district that fully met and exceeded the New Jersey Early Childhood Self-Assessment Validation System Review, and decreased preschool chronic absenteeism.

Strengths, Dr. Cooper said, included talented students, a strong early childhood program, a diverse community, and a committed and knowledgeable staff.

Challenges are the budget, charter school enrollment, aging technology, and absenteeism.

The way the district plans to reach its goals include conducting a complete audit and reviewing/revising curriculum and program offerings, as well as extra-curricular, athletic and after-school programs.

Additional student performances during the event included:

  • "Christmas Festival" by the Maxson Middle School Concert Band
  • A dance number by the Barlow Inspirational Dancers
  • Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas," performed by the Maxson Middle School Chorus
  • The Barlow 4th Grade Chorus sang two numbers:  "Turn Off that Nose" and "Snow"
