PLAINFIELD, NJ - The Plainfield Board of Education recognized senior scholar athlete Waldy Arias, a student at Plainfield High School, for his National Letter of Intent to play baseball at Campbell University on a scholarship at its meeting Tuesday
Arias, an accomplished scholar and athlete, was honored with a Certificate of Achievement. It was presented on behalf of the Board of Education and the Plainfield School District by Mrs. Emily E. Morgan, President of the Board, and Acting Superintendent of Plainfield Schools, Dr. Caryn D. Cooper.
Morgan said, "The Board of Education is pleased to recognize Waldy Arias as booth outstanding athlete and scholar and for the great success he has achieved while at Plainfield High School."
Morgan said his parents and coaches also have played a great part in his success and she thanked Arias' parents, Mrs. Maria Perez and Dickson Arias, Coaches Sean Radu and Jared Pasko, and Director of Athletics Mr. John Quinn, for a job well done. Morgan repeated her favorite saying, "Team Work Makes Dreams Work."
Acting Superintendent of Schools Dr. Caryn D. Cooper thanked the coaches and said, "In order to produce this level of athlete, we know you had to put in a lot of time. Congratulations for producing a Division I Athlete."
"Waldy, congratulations to you and your family, it's a wonderful honor," said Mr. Quinn.
Arias was surrounded by his family and friends, including his mother Ms. Maria Perez, his father Mr. Dickson Arias and his younger brother, Junior Arias, a freshman at Plainfield High School and a member of the JROTC.
Sean Radu, Arias' coach said, “He has been an exceptional player since his first season playing here."
Most recently, in the 2017 season, Arias was named First-Team All-Conference in addition to the Union County Underclassmen All-Star team. During the season, Arias helped lead the Plainfield Cardinals to their first Sky Division Championship in school history."
Arias will begin his career with the Fighting Camels, in North Carolina, in September 2018.
