EDISON, NJ -- A crowd of students, faculty and staff swarmed to watch the first edition of Chopped at The Wardlaw+Hartridge School in Edison. Organized by junior Laura Prishtina of Roselle Park and SAGE Dining Services Chef Anibal Rodriguez, the reality show competition attracted attention and left the community looking forward to the next episode in February.
Student teams, each assisted by two faculty mentors, created an appetizer and main course from a basket of ingredients in 35 minutes. A trio of judges -- Gerard Gonnella '89, Director of Admission, Tamica Lloyd, Development Operations Manager, and Rudy Brandl '83, Director of Communications -- sampled the entries, provided feedback and determined a winner.
The team of Kevin Nader of Bernardsville, Audrey Vu of Colonia, Camila Fang of Edison, Neha Sharma of Edison and Danny Hoffman of Berkeley Heights, assisted by Upper School teachers Justine Borzumato and Nicole Nolan, prevailed in a friendly and very close competition. Their pretzel crusted chicken, bacon wrapped shrimp and butternut squash soup produced a tasty combination.
Two additional preliminary episodes will also send winning teams to the championship round in late winter or early spring.
