EDISON, NJ -- This has been an educational and successful year for the Wardlaw+Hartridge Upper School Model United Nations team. Under the leadership of President Neil Shah of Edison, Vice President Ryan Brace of Scotch Plains, and Secretary-Treasurer Rihan Sajid or Careret, the team has grown, both in size and in skill, with new delegates gaining an understanding of the ins and outs of not only Model UN, but real-world global political discourse and action.

Over the course of the year, the delegates have been challenged to represent and debate global opinions on a myriad of subjects, including women’s rights, indigenous rights to ancestral land, reproductive rights, access to humanitarian aid, and the bureaucracy of the UN itself. In addition to these modern issues, some delegates have been tasked with impersonating and arguing on behalf of historic or fictional characters, debating action in fictional crises.

The team sent delegations to three conferences this year: Monroe-Woodbury, EMPIREMUNC (held at NYU) and AMUN (held at Bergen County Academies). At the latest conference, AMUN, Pranay Arora of Edison, Rihan Sajid and Neil Shah won awards or commendations for their performance in their committees. The Model UN team is proud of all that they have accomplished and looks forward to future achievements in the years to come.
