ELIZABETH, NJ — Two young salsa dancers from Elizabeth have made it to the live quarter-final round of America’s Got Talent.

Twelve-year-old Simon Ruiz and ten-year-old Maria Lopez have been dancing together for three years. They met at the Quimbara Dance Studio in Elizabeth and instantly became friends and dance partners.

Simon and Maria have competed at dance competitions all over the country including the World Summit Championship and the Escape to Poconos Dance Competition. Now they are out in Los Angeles representing New Jersey and Elizabeth at America’s Got Talent.

“We are nervous because of all of the talented people that are left in the competition now, but it’s still exciting,” Simon told TAPinto Elizabeth.

Unlike their first performance in front of the judges and a big crowd, this time Simon and Maria will be dancing at Universal Studios in front of a film crew while the judges and the country watch them live on TV. During their audition Simon and Maria got to speak with fellow Colombian Sofia Vergara who told them how happy she was to see them performing on the show.

To vote for Simon and Maria download the America’s Got Talent app.  Viewers will have 24 hours after their performance to cast their votes. Their next performance will be in the first round of the quarterfinals live shows on Tuesday, August 11 at 8 p.m.
